Have you just ordered a hairpiece and realized that you would look better in a different colour? Or have you been wearing a men's wig for a few months but find that the colour of your hair is fading? If you are facing either of these situations, your best option may be to colour or tint your hair system. Until then, you may be worried and ask: can hair systems be coloured? Will they become poor quality later? Our answer is: dyeing your hair will definitely cause varying degrees of damage to your hair system and even hair loss, so you need to have some tips to ensure that you minimise the damage caused to your wig by hair dye. In this way, you will be able to achieve a hair system that is both stylish and of high quality.
Adequate preparation is essential
Before you start, you should be well prepared. If you go for something in the process that you haven't prepared in advance, sex an item, it's really too bad that you have hair dye all over your hands at that time.
You should be prepared with these items.
A styrofoam model head
A toothed comb
A plastic cup
A clean towel
Hair dye
Gloves
Hair conditioner
Soft bristle brush or comb
In addition, you should pay attention to the choice of place. A well-lit room is perfect. Because once the room is darker, you will not be able to clearly detect the colour of your hair and could make a mistake.
Also, make sure your hairpiece is clean and dry, otherwise the result will not be what you expect or your hairpiece will suffer.
Step 1: Secure the wig
We recommend using a styrofoam tip as it allows you to manage your hair accessory with ease. If using it, cover the styrofoam tip tightly with aluminium foil. This will protect the hair system and allow you to use it again the next time you want to colour your hair.
Next, place the hair system on the styrofoam head and make sure it is secured. Then, gently brush or comb through your hair system to remove any possible tangles. This step will give you a very smooth hair colouring process.
Step 2: Mix the dye
Unlike your natural hair, a wig absorbs colour more readily than it should, so you'll want to be careful with your colour choice. For example, if you intend to dye it the same colour as your own natural hair you can use a colour that is one or two shades lighter than your own hair colour.
Next, it's time to mix the hair dyes. There are different products and in this step you need to follow the instructions of the product.
Step 3: Apply the dye
This step is the heart of the whole process. You need to be very careful and patient.
First of all, you must make sure you are wearing gloves, as the hair dye contains harsh ingredients that can damage your skin and also colour your hands, which can be difficult to clean.
Once you have your gloves on, take your comb and use it to apply the dye to your hair system. Be very careful to only apply the dye to the hair of the hairpiece and not to the base of the hairpiece as this will cause unwanted stains.
Watch the order in which you apply it, starting at the top of your hair system and working your way down. Otherwise you will create tangles in your wig and cause hair loss.
Step 4: Rinse your hairpiece
Once your hairpiece system has the desired colour, it's time to rinse it out against the reasonable amount of time in the instructions. Gently take it off the styrofoam head and rinse with warm water - make sure the dye touches the base of the hair system as little as possible.
After rinsing the hair system, you must not forget to use a hair care product. Because hair dyes contain a lot of harsh ingredients that can damage the hair cuticle, you may find that the wig becomes less smooth and drier afterwards. It tends to tangle easily. Therefore, the use of hair care products is essential to properly mitigate this damage.
Step 5: Dry your hairpiece system
Now that we have rinsed our hair accessory system, it's time to dry it out! Always remember that no matter what, you have to be gentle with your wig. Use a soft towel to dry your hair system, do not wring the towel, secondly press it gently to get rid of most of the moisture before gently placing it on the model and letting it dry naturally. You need to be very gentle throughout the whole process as you don't want to cause any tangles or hair loss.
Now the whole process is over and you've got a brand new wig, aren't you very excited? Always remember that your hair system is nowhere near as strong as your natural hair, so you must be very careful, patient and gentle throughout the process. Also, don't forget that without colouring your hair, there is no damage, so you must control the frequency of colouring your hair and not always think about giving it a new colour.
